Vegetarians and Vegans Depressed Twice as Often as Meat Eaters

A new study is showing people who are vegetarian or vegan experience depressive episodes twice as frequently as meat eaters.

The study was by Brazilian researchers and published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, stating there's a "positive association between the prevalence of depressive episodes and a meatless diet."

Over 14,000 participants aged 35 to 74 years were surveyed over six months and evaluated using the Clinical Interview Schedule-Revised instrument.

Eating animal protein may be associated with happiness, but plant-based diets have long been associated with a lower risk of heart disease.
