It’s all happening! Disney and Hilary Duff announced over the weekend during the D23 Expo that Lizzie McGuire is getting a reboot 15 years later!
The series, which will stream exclusively on Disney+, will catch up with Lizzie aka Duff as she takes on adulthood in the Big Apple. In the reboot, Lizzie is 30-years-old now and works as an apprentice to an interior designer and is engaged to a chef. (!!!)
The Younger actress celebrated the announcement at Disney's D23 Expo on Friday, August 23, telling E! News that it was "near impossible" to keep it all a secret.
"I'm a fan and we're such a part of each other,” she shared. “It makes a lot of sense and feels really right."
Duff added that she thinks it’s the perfect time to bring back the beloved Disney character for the fans who grew up with Lizzie during the show’s run from 2001 to 2004.
“The conversations have gone on for a couple of years and the timing just didn’t seem right and now Lizzie is turning 30,” she explained to People magazine. “For me, she was everybody’s best friend and she was there for us... entering your 30s is a really big deal. … I think it’s the right time to set back in and have her go along with you in your 30s and all the fun times, and all of the big monumental moments, and all of the challenges that you’re faced with.”
We couldn’t agree more!
