Sniffing A Lemon Will Help You Feel Thin, Research Says

Lemons are offered for sale at Eastern M

Lemons lemons everywhere and plenty to sniff! According to new research, sniffing lemons will make people feel slim. The aroma coming from the lemon will boost your body image and will improve your self-esteem according to the scientists.

The lead author of the study, Giada Brianza, said: "Our brain holds several mental models of one's own body appearance which are necessary for successful interactions with the environment." She continues saying, "Our study shows how the sense of smell can influence the image we have in our mind of our body and on the feelings and emotions towards it."

The study conducted at the University of Susex's Computer-Human Interaction Lab found that the participants in the study say they felt "thinner and lighter" when they were given the scent of a lemon. The smell of vanilla had exact opposite effect on the participants. They left feeling thicker and heavier when given the scent of vanilla.

Brianza says: "It could lead to novel and more effective therapies for people with body perception disorders or the development of interactive clothes and wearable technology. They could use scent to enhance people's self-confidence and recalibrate distorted feelings of body weight."

Around 30 million people in the US are suffering from an eating disorder and the researchers of this study believe this new discovery of the lemon could help!
