Key Glock is opening up about his upcoming album before it arrives this spring.
On Tuesday, March 18, the Memphis rapper appeared on Way Up With Angela Yee to discuss his major-label debut LP Glockaveli. The title and cover were inspired by the late 2Pac's 1996 posthumous album Makaveli (also known as The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory). He explained how 'Pac's work influenced his upcoming project and his life in general.
"I just didn't wanna put myself on the cross so I just put a thorn crown on my head," Glizock said about making his album cover.
"I been studying 'Pac since I was a young boy like real small," he continued. "When you think of 'Pac how they display him, it's just straight thug life all the time. But when you read more about him and look more into him, he was actually smart. He stood for so many things that you wouldn't even know about because they don't talk about it."
Key Glock spent the last few weeks preparing fans for what to expect on his forthcoming album. It's his first album since the Memphis native signed to Republic Records earlier this month. He shared his latest joint "No Sweat" several weeks after he dropped the first single "3AM in ToKEYo" produced by DJ Paul. The latter track indicated that he is open to collaborating with different artists for his album despite dropping projects without features.
"I don't mind collabing at all," he said. "I'm down to collab but like when they hear Glock don't do features they think I don't do them at all like I won't even get on they songs. So it kinda gives people an 'I don't know'-ish feeling about me. But some people still come and ask for the feature."
Look out for Glockaveli dropping May 2. You can also check out the dates for his "Glockaveli Tour," which he just announced today. Watch a few stand-out clips and Angela Yee's entire interview with Key Glock below.
