Cordae has finally provided fans with more context behind the demise of YBN.
On Sunday, December 29, YouTuber Peaks100 debuted his video "24 Hours With Cordae," which shows him linking up with Cordae in Maryland. Midway through the episode, Peaks asks Cordae why he decided to drop "YBN" from his name and leave the group formed by YBN Nahmir and Almighty Jay.. The 27-year-old rapper said it was "a number of reasons" why he parted ways with YBN. He explained how rap groups don't always stay together before he revealed YBN's dynamics and a major argument in Europe led to its downfall.
“We never recorded a song with all three of us,” he said. “The business side of it was kinda like super f**ked up, honestly. N***as got into a big argument in f**king Europe. People say certain things that they can’t take back.”
YBN, which stands for "Young Boss N***as," was formed in 2014 after YBN Nahmir met YBN Almighty Jay online while playing video games. The group expanded to include YBN Glizzy, YBN Walker, and others before Cordae officially joined the group as a core member in 2018. The group released its first official project YBN: The Mixtape in 2018 featuring Chris Brown, Gucci Mane, Wiz Khalifa and more. Two years later, YBN Nahmir announced the group had disbanded, and Cordae followed suit by dropping the acronym from his name.
“It’s still love, but it’s still some s**t you just can’t take [back], you know what I’m saying?” Cordae added. “Nahmir, that’s still my homie, like, s**t. Jay, I still f**k with bruh.”
Cordae, Nahmir and Almighty Jay continue to release solo music to this day. The "Mad As F**k" rapper recently dropped his third studio album The Crossroads in November containing songs like "Saturday Mornings" featuring Lil Wayne and "No Bad News" with Ye. Nahmir also dropped his single "Caskets" this year while Almighty Jay teamed up with Calour for "Givenchy."
