Young Thug is finally free after he was sentenced in the YSL RICO case.
On Thursday evening, October 31, the Atlanta native received his sentence from Judge Paige Whitaker after he accepted a plea deal. Judge Whitaker sentenced him to 40 years in total. He was ordered to serve five years in prison but was commuted to the time he already served followed by 15 years of probation plus a backloaded 20 years, which can be served in custody if he fails to follow the terms of his probation. If he's successful, the sentence will be commuted to time served.
“I take full responsibility for my charges," Young Thug said in his statement to the judge.
As part of his probation, Young Thug is not allowed to enter the Metro Atlanta area for the first 10 years excluding graduations and weddings for his family. He will also be allowed to enter the Metro Atlanta area to make mandatory anti-gang presentations at schools four times a year, which can also include community benefit concerts. He also barred from promoting gang activity in any way and has to do 100 hours of community service each year of his probation.
Young Thug is also banned from contacting any gang members or his codefendants. However, Thug and his attorney Brian Steel specifically requested permission to remain in contact with his brother Unfoonk and Gunna, which the judge approved. The judge also allowed the rapper to keep his passport and travel for work purposes.
Following the sentencing, his girlfriend Mariah The Scientist expressed her gratitude for the outcome and thanked Judge Whitaker for her ruling. See her full statement below.
