SAN ANTONIO, TX — The Latin Recording Academy announced the nominations for the 23rd annual Latin Grammy Awards on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, and Grupo Alamo received their third consecutive nomination. The San Antonio-based band’s sixth studio album, Camino al Progreso, was nominated for Best Tejano Album, it’s the third straight album release to receive that distinction.
“It was a day of emotions,” said Grupo Alamo’s Ernie Gonzales. “It’s something monumental for us as a band and as musicians. When we started the band 29 years ago, we have always tried to stay relevant in all aspects of the business, and with the music we create. We always go into the studio with the mindset that we are going to make the best album possible and keep the music and production to the highest caliber, and with this nomination, I believe we have proved again we are relevant and we are a driving force always trying to take Tejano Music to a new plateau.”
Camino Al Progreso was produced by Gonzales, Sinuhe Aussenac, and Percy Cardona, and mixed at the famed Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, by Gonzales and Teddy Martinez. The album was mastered by legendary Brian “Big Bass” Gardner.

The nine-track album features vocals from Mark Ledesma, Latin Grammy winner Juan Trevino, and Gonzales. A few of Nashville’s most sought-after musicians joined Grupo Alamo on two English-style cumbias which are must-hear collaborations.
“It was cool because we got to play with some of our friends in Nashville that play with Reba McEntire, a couple of them play with Martina McBride, and another friend of ours that has probably recorded over 300 or 400 number one hits,” Gonzales tells Tejano Nation about the album. “They got to play on a couple of songs with us and some harmonies and it was cool because it was something new for us, it was something new for them and they just loved being able to get involved in a new style of music and we just had a blast.”
Grupo Alamo received Latin Grammy nominations for Best Tejano Album with their two previous albums, Proximo Nivel in 2018 and Seguimos Soñando in 2014.

The 23rd annual Latin GRAMMYs will return to Las Vegas at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022. The telecast will air live on Univision beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central). Preceding the telecast is the Latin GRAMMY Premiere ceremony, a long-established afternoon full of unforgettable performances and heartfelt acceptance speeches, where the winners in most categories will be announced.
