Ram Herrerais an icon in Tejano music with a career that spans more than 40 years. The 61-year-old singer has returned with a long-awaited new album in 2021 with the release ofBack On Track.

Herrera shared details on the album’s title in an exclusive interview withFierro HDafternoon hostBo Coronaon Jan. 11. “It’s calledBack On Track,” he said. “My daughter came up with the name. My youngest daughter Marlena. She also sings with me on one of the tracks. I hadn’t recorded in such a long time and I went through so much, I kind of fell off track with my life and she goes, ‘Dad, why don’t you call it back on track?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, that’ll work’.”

This is the first album from Herrera in six years. It’s the follow-up to the Latin Grammy-nominatedMucho Mas Que Amor, released in 2015. The crooner says this album is one he wanted to do himself.

“This album I’m doing it all on my own,” said Herrera. “I’m taking a shot at it. I think the material is good. I think people will like it.”

The album features a gospel song, a romantic cumbia, and remakes of some of the crooner’s older material like “Corazon Sin Nido” featuring a steel guitar and accordion, along with “Tu Eres” done as a ballad. Herrera said, “I’ve got like three cumbias on there, then we did some original rancheras. Then I did some old David Lee (Garza Y Los Musicales) stuff.”

As for what’s in store for the award-winning singer and songwriter in 2021, he said, “I’m just going to keep doing what I do and see what falls in place,” he said. “I’m going to start recording again. I want to re-record all my old stuff. I want to get all that in my catalog and own it just try to make the best of it with what’s left. I just want to stay busy, I want to work.”

The new album from Ram Herrera,Back On Track, will be released on January 15 and is available for pre-order now.
