FEMA to Open Disaster Recovery Center in Cameron County

La Feria, Texas – A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open in Cameron County for homeowners, renters and private nonprofits who sustained damage as a result of the 24 and June 25 flooding.

The DRC’s location and normal operating hours are as follows:

La Feria Safe Room (Dome) 1001 Pancho Maples Drive (La Feria, Texas 78559)

Monday, July 22, 2019 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

After this Date (until further notice):

7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

7 Days a Week

Affected residents may also apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone (voice, 711 or relay service) at 800-621-3362. TTY users should call 800-462-7585. The toll-free lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

Assistance for eligible applicants may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, and for other serious disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses, funeral and burial costs or essential transportation damage costs. In addition, low-interest disaster loans are available for homeowners, renters, and private nonprofits.

DRC specialists can provide guidance regarding disaster recovery and rental resources, explain written correspondence received from FEMA, inform applicants of the status of their application, make referrals to other organizations and answer questions.

Affected residents have 60 days from the federal disaster declaration -- dated July 17-- to apply for disaster assistance.
